Business glossary

Plain definitions of the ideas behind building a business that can run, scale and continue without depending on its owner. Where a term connects to our work, we have linked the relevant page.

TSOT
TransGanization School of Thought.
CEO Office
TransGanization's embedded office that places a full-time team inside a business to build the systems, SOPs and leadership that let it run without the owner.
BOTM
Build, Operate, Transfer, Monitor: the model TransGanization uses to explore new growth, standing up an initiative, running it until stable, handing it to your team, then monitoring.
Saathi
The companion. Walking the journey with you, through the climbs and the plateaus, present for the whole of it, not just the milestones.
Saarthi
The charioteer. Helping steer when the road gets unclear, holding direction and counsel when the path forward is hard to read.
Sakshi
The witness. Observing without judgement, so the right patterns reveal themselves and the organisation sees itself clearly.
Business transformation
The deliberate rebuilding of how a company operates so that it depends less on any single person and more on systems, leadership and process. For a family business it usually means moving from founder-led control to an institution that can run, scale and continue on its own. See our CEO Office.
Owner dependency
The degree to which a business relies on its owner or promoter to function day to day. High owner dependency caps growth, raises risk and lowers the value of the business. Reducing it means transferring knowledge, decisions and relationships to the team. Read how to reduce owner dependency.
Fractional CEO office
An arrangement in which experienced operators take on the leadership and execution work of a chief executive inside a business, on a shared, embedded basis, without the company hiring a full-time CEO. Read what a fractional CEO office is.
CEO's office model
An operating model in which a dedicated team carries the full range of work that sits on a chief executive's desk, planning, systems, people, operations and review, alongside the owner rather than replacing them. It is the basis of the TransGanization CEO Office.
Standard operating procedure (SOP)
A written, repeatable description of how a specific task should be done, so that quality does not depend on one person's memory. SOPs make delegation safe and training consistent. Read how to build SOPs your team will follow.
Second-line leadership
The layer of managers below the owner who can make decisions and run functions without escalating everything upward. Building a capable second line is central to reducing owner dependency and to succession.
Family charter
A written understanding of how a family will own, govern and work together, covering roles, decision rights, entry and exit, and how disputes are handled. The conversation that produces it matters as much as the document. See the Family Governance Office.
Family governance
The structures and agreements that help an enterprise family make decisions and stay aligned across generations, separating ownership, management and family matters. It complements legal and estate planning rather than replacing it.
Succession planning
Preparing a business and a family for an orderly transfer of leadership and ownership to the next generation or to professional management, so continuity does not depend on a single individual remaining in place.
Franchisee lifecycle
The full span of a franchise relationship, from onboarding and training through operations, audits and ongoing performance support. Managing it well is what makes each outlet succeed, not just the sale of the franchise. See the Franchise Success Office.
Institutionalisation
The process of turning a founder-led company into an institution: a business with systems, leadership depth and governance that allow it to run, scale and continue beyond any one person.
Business systemisation
Codifying how a business works, its processes, decisions and standards, so the same quality can be delivered repeatedly and by different people. It is the foundation for scaling and for scaling without losing control.
